Sir Bobby – Happy Birthday – Thanks for the good times

February 18, 2009

Sir Bobby - Thanks ever so much for all the memories

Sir Bobby - Thanks ever so much for all the memories

Today is the birthday of one of Newcastle’s biggest legends, Sir Bobby Robson. The legend of the Toon is 76 today and his fond memories will be remembered for a long time, indeed he probably managed one of the most successful Newcastle teams and ever since he was sacked because we lost 4-2 to Aston Villa, the team has slumped and we’ve gone through managers like Chocolate buttons.

This video courtesy of some wishful thinking fellow is dedicated to Bobby and all the good memories he brought to Newcastle United FC :

Happy birthday Bobby and we hope that you overcome your health problems like you have done on so many occasions :)

Strikers back and Cahill and Hibbert miss out

February 16, 2009

Strikers - Back from injury and goals needed

Strikers - Back from injury and goals needed

Good news today as Obafemi Martins, Mark Viduka and Alan Smith will all return for the Everton game as St.James’ which promises to be a important battle to say the least. We need the win, Everton would like it too, but Everton’s away form is not going to dent their confidence considering they have played, on occasions, a lot better on the road then at home.

The good news is, Martins with his rampant pace and Viduka with his odd goal here and there will come in handy as the Premier League’s season finale approaches. We haven’t overly strengthened our squad in January but the players we have bought, are up for the challenge and that alone is hear warming + they are quality players too. It will be a good game we hope with Newcastle triumphing at the end. What a win it would be, and for Blackburn Stoke and Sunderland to lose :D

Kinnear - Best of luck today Joe

Kinnear - Best of luck today Joe

It’s a superstitious day today and maybe a bit eerily it is the day Joe Kinnear gets a vital operation done. We believe Joe will get the best of the best when it comes to treatment and we hope he makes a speedy recovery :)

Just thought I’d point it out ;)

Kinnear - Wishing him a speedy and complete recovery

Newcastle United have issued an official statement on Joe Kinnear’s bypass surgery tomorrow.

Newcastle United can confirm that manager Joe Kinnear will undergo a triple heart bypass operation tomorrow.

Joe was admitted to hospital on Saturday morning in the Midlands after reporting of feeling unwell at the team’s hotel ahead of the game at West Bromwich Albion.

Tests have since confirmed Joe requires surgery, after which he will need to rest for a period of at least eight weeks.

Joe said:

“I’ve really appreciated all the get well messages I’ve received from people over the last week and I’d like to thank everyone who has been in touch.”

Managing Director Derek Llambias said:

“I am sure the whole football community will join Newcastle United in wishing Joe a speedy recovery.”

Chris Hughton and Colin Calderwood will continue to take charge of first team football affairs at the Club.

We wish Joe the very best of luck and hope the luck of the Irish is on his and indeed Newcastle’s side :)

Who Newcastle were really after in January

Kinnear - Set for Heart operation - we all hope it goes well

Kinnear - Set for Heart operation - we all hope it goes well

Lots of things happened at Newcastle today mainly because Derek Llambias has opened his mouth. Most are positive vibes mind you. Llambias informed us of what players we were really after at the start of 2009. Here are the few we definitely made enquiries about :

  • Michael Johnston
  • Nedum Onuoha
  • Elano
  • Albin Ebondo
  • Kieran Richardson

This is good news and even better is, that we’ll be going after some of these in the summer again :D

On a serious note, Joe Kinnear will receive surgery on his heart later this week after a urgent appointment. We hope you’ll be alright Joe :D Calum Calderwood is expected to step in.

Llambias speaks with proposed 5 year plans for Newcastle

February 10, 2009
Llambias - Resolving the many questions

Llambias - Resolving the many questions

Derek Llambias finally spoke today with the Chronicle and came out with some interesting fact and plans for Newcastle. After reading this you may have changed or opinion have it might have strengthened. Some things he says make sense and other comments he makes are very enticing although we need something to back that up. Here is what he say regarding Mike’s purchase of Newcastle at the start :

“Historically, with Sports Direct, Mike stayed under the radar for 20 years until he floated his company.

“Then all of a sudden people realised there was a £2.5billion company there.

“He stayed under the radar because he had very little Press communication.

“But we do realise owning Newcastle United is a totally different forum.“When Chris Mort was here he was very proactive with the Press.

“When I came on the board, Mike and I discussed it and we basically wanted to keep a lower profile.

“Then within no time at all KK happened.

“And then it just got worse and whatever we said got worse.

“So we decided to keep as low a profile as possible, get on with our business plan, move forward with what we were doing with our management team and to assist whatever manager was coming in as best as possible.

“Maybe we have made mistakes on the communication side.

“We freely admit we have made mistakes and we put our hands up.

“But now we’re in a position where Mike is back on board and we’re not selling the club.

“Our intention is to go back on the track we were on before with our business plan.

“We think that is the only way forward for the particular club.

“And I think it will be a model going forward for a lot of Premier League clubs.

“So we’re now trying to put the stability back into the club as far as that is concerned.

“We apologise and I personally apologise for the miscommunication.

“Mike has gone out and made some generic statements.

“We try to do generic statements through the club Press office which people have seen.

“Basically now we’re saying The Chronicle and the Journal are welcome to come in and ask the questions on a regular basis.

“We haven’t got anything to hide.

“We’re realistic about where we need to be in the next year or so.”

But the most interesting of all :

“In five years’ time I would hope we would be challenging for everything.

“We hope to be like an Aston Villa.

“But you need to have solid grounding under your feet.

“You need that – it should have been built years ago.

“We inherited so much.

“We’re knocking down walls and rebuilding.”

“We are trying to get away from dating so that we don’t have huge amounts of money going out.

“We are trying to pay up front.

“People like Coloccini, Xisco and Gutierrez, which is just getting sorted out now – we own those players.

“It’s like buying a car on HP but then it gets written off, but you still have to pay it.

“That’s how the business was being run, they ran it on a credit.” “There is £8m there and it will be spent in the summer.

“Mike isn’t afraid to spend money out of his own pocket.

“Last year we lost £34m, this year we’ll lose £20m, and next year it will be around £7m.

“But it still doesn’t mean that Mike won’t invest when he has to invest.

“We aren’t a selling club, we’re a buying club.

“We are out there in the market.”

Makes for interesting reading.

Newcastle supporters club to protest at Everton game?

February 9, 2009
Protest - Stupid to say the least

Protest - Stupid to say the least

There is news today that NUSC are planning a protest at the Everton game to signal their intentions once again. It is clear they have wanted Mike Ashley out after Keegan’s departure and that is acceptable. However planning a protest at such a time when we are deep in a relegation battle and have got our 1st win in some time is stupid, very idiotic indeed. The players need us more than ever now and especially against Everton, if we win that game it would be a great great win to say the least. Morale is high at Newcastle at least higher than it was a while ago and we need to keep it up.

Ashley and Kinnear did try for players like Veloso, Michael Johnston and Kieran Richardson (yes the Sunderland one) but we failed because the clubs were looking for too much or the player failed a medical. We have however done some good business with Peter Lovenkrands who scored on Saturday :D also with Kevin Nolan and perhaps the pick of the bunch a swap which saw us receive Ryan Taylor for Insomnia. Taylor provided the assist for the decisive goal on Saturday and he gave it his all which we like to see, considering the position we’re in. So all in all this protest is stupid and will not change anything expect the headline on the Sunday newspapers who no doubt will tear into the Toon if this goes ahead.

To all considering protesting please don’t bother, do all the protesting you like when we are safe and dry come June :)

Kinnear taken to hopital – Bad news

February 7, 2009
Kinnear - Will be missed in the dressing room today

Kinnear - Will be missed in the dressing room today

Bad news today, Joe Kinnear has fallen ill just before the West Brom game and will not be at it, as he is in hospital. It is a major blow to the team as he is a great orator in the dressing room, whether Chris Hughton can get the same from the players is yet to be seen but today’s game is certainly a game we need to win. Losing Kinnear for this one is a big loss. The starting line up is still uncertain and news that Martins is back, he should really start. Big game, big three points, come on lads, do it for Joe :)

Get well soon Joe :)

Injuries clearing up for Newcastle – Good news

February 6, 2009
Viduka - Goals needed for the rest of the season

Viduka - Goals needed for the rest of the season

Injuries are clearing up at Newcastle and this is good news, very good news indeed. With a fully fit squad we can challenge and beat any team bar the top four. Unfortunately our players cannot stay fit and get nasty injuries to keep them out or prolonged spells. Now that we are facing a nervy finale more faces coming back from injury is brilliant news, especially when some of these are quality like Martins and Viduka, when he wants to be.

West Brom is a big game without a doubt and getting players back from injury is a massive boost considering some of these can score goals, Martins of course :D . The match is tomorrow at the Hawthorns and I for one am looking forward to it to say the least. Hopefully Jay Simpson will be out too and we get all 3 points. What a day it would be if Sunderland lost along with Stoke, Blackburn and Middlesbrough and oh yes, Tottenham :D . We would be able to push on after this win, although very tough games coming up at home, and hopefully guarantee safety quite soon :)

Martins, Viduka and Smith all return for West Brom

February 5, 2009
Martins - We will need his goals now that Owen is out

Martins - We will need his goals now that Owen is out

Good news on to Toon today as Martins, Viduka and Smith are all in the squad for the away trip to West Brom on Saturday. It is a much needed boost following this January’s transfer window and the fact we could’ve and should’ve signed more players. West Brom as it’s known are in a dog fight too and are conveniently placed bottom of the league, The Hawthorn’s is not a very easy place to come away with 3 points from as the richest club in the world, City have learnt.

Martins, who we all know can create something out of nothing will be vital for the rest of the season, and even on Saturday if his call beckons. Viduka on the other hand has some goals in him too and the least he can do for us paying him £60,000 a week is to score 10-15 goals till the end of the season :D Somehow I doubt that will happen. As for Smith well he’s a battler and they are exactly the type of player we need for this fight. Whether he’ll play up front or in midfield is another thing but we sure could use some of his goals like he scored at Leeds United!

West Brom is a big game, and the best possible result is 3 points and no injuries. No too much to ask is it?
